20 September was a fun and special day! The Johan Cruyff Foundation organized a sport day for (disabled) children at the Olympic stadium of Amsterdam. The children could try different sports accompanied by volunteers, ambassadors and famous Dutch sportsmen. Children enjoyed playing sports from flag football, street dancing and tennis to kickboxing and wheelchair basketball!
We also volunteered this day! What did the day look like for team BS Toys?
It was an early morning! The day started off at 7:45 with a briefing of the Johan Cruyff team. The canteen was filled with enthusiastic and excited volunteers. Everyone was designed to a specific task during the day, from preparing lunch packages to assisting the children while playing different sports.
At 11:30 there was a seminar for ambassadors, press and other network relations to listen to some inspiring and interesting stories of the Johan Cruyff Foundation and their sportsmen. Humberto tan was the host of the seminar and interviewed among others Niels Meijer, the managing director of the Johan Cruyff Foundation. Then it was time to reveal the 5 euro commemorative coin of Johan Cruijff! Designed by Hennie Bouwe in memory of Johan Cruijff, the great sportsman.
After listening to the motivating stories, it was around 2 pm time for the opening of the sport day at the Olympic stadium! The first commemorative coin was printed in front of the press and everyone.
Then…it was time to play sports!!
The atmosphere in the Olympic stadium was great! Everyone was having fun and played sports together. Around 4 pm Gio, a dutch singer, performed a few of his songs.
Before the children and the parents left the Olympic stadium, the volunteers created a guard of honour to wave everyone goodbye! And of course ‘Cruyffie’ the mascot was there as well!
It was a successful day! All children and parents left the stadium with a smile on their faces and so did team BS Toys!
We cannot wait until the next event of the Johan Cruyff Foundation, we might see you there!
